now i know....

friday after lunch we had to go to radio shack...it was just richard and i in the car...i saw a sign for the martin luther king rodeo at the stock show...so since richard is black i thought it was a good opportunity to ask him what the whole mlk rodeo thing was all about....i mean seriously...if richard was to ask me a similar question about...say the ceasar chavez rodeo..i could probably explain it..to a certain degree...i mean let's face it....it's not that unusual to see a mexican in a cowboy hat let alone...cowboy boots...
but i can't remember the last time i saw a black guy in either a cowboy hat or boots...
so anyway...
i said....ok richard...what's up with the whole mlk rodeo thing?...
well richard explained, there is a black rodeo circuit....he said he even has relatives who participate in it...so he told me all about it....and of course...i explained how hard it was for me to make the connection based on the whole cowboy hat and boots observation...
and of course....i also had to mention that even though you basically can't go into a large crowd of mexicans without finding cowboy hats and boots...i can't recall ever seeing one of my relatives in either...except maybe during stock show week...
and...the few times i have worn a cowboy hat...i look less like a cowboy and more like a migrant worker...
anyway...
i believe richard...i really do...
except....the thing is...
we all know...the whole martin luther king ..."i have a dream" speech...
but for me...
i have a hard time believing that one of his dreams was to someday have a rodeo named after him....
